WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman, Cook County Commissioner of the 17 District encompassing Indian Head Park, LaGrange Park, Lemont, Riverside, Willow Springs and parts of Bensenville, Berkeley, Brookfield, Burr Ridge, Countryside, Hillside, Hinsdale, Hodgkins, LaGrange, Oak Brook, Westchester and Western Springs has stepped down from her position; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her resignation by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman has provided outstanding guidance and leadership to her constituents in the 17th District for thirteen years; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman grew up in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood and is the daughter of a Chicago fireman and electrician; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman attended Mother McAuley High School, received a Bachelor's Degree from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Notre Dame University's Executive MBA program; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman is married to businessman Gerald Gorman and is the mother of Conor, Liam and Shane; and

WHEREAS, A committed and dedicated community activist, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman won election to the Cook County Board in 2002, succeeding Herbert T. Schumann, Jr. as Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman worked tirelessly on a number of fronts, including holding the line on an increase in the Cook County sales tax; and

WHEREAS, A strong advocate for tax reform, fiscal responsibility and budget and operational efficiencies, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman achieved a rollback of the Cook County's sales tax increase from 1.75 per cent to 1.25 per cent in 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, During her years of service as a Cook County Board member, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman opposed attempts to increase the Hotel Occupancy Tax and the Food and Beverage Tax, urging her colleagues to fight for the interests of the taxpayer; and

WHEREAS, While serving in office, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman championed the training of law enforcement officers on the use of Naloxone, an effective treatment for individuals who have overdosed on heroin; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman drew attention to the benefits of Naloxone by sponsoring workshops to bring together first-responders and public officials to evaluate the drug and strategize resources to combat heroin addiction in south suburban communities; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman successfully sponsored an amendment restricting large trucks and recreational vehicles from parking on residential streets in areas of unincorporated Cook County; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman was chosen to serve as the Committee Chairperson of the Environmental Control Committee and as Vice Chairperson of the Roads and Bridges Committee, the Rules and Administration Committee and the Technology and Innovation Committee; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman served as the Chairman of the Suburban Caucus of the County Board and was a member of ten other committees, including Audit, Criminal Justice, Business and Economic Development, Finance, Health and Hospitals, Homeland Security, Legislation, the North Suburban, Northwest, and Southwest METRA Nominating Committees, Zoning and Building; and

WHEREAS, In 2003 Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman succeeded William Maher as Orland Township Republican Committeeman; and

WHEREAS, A prominent leader within her party, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman became Cook County Republican Party Chairman for 2007-2008; and

WHEREAS, In July 2015, Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman announced her intention to join the firm of PriceWaterhouseCoopers as a Director responsible for assisting clients with operational and policy issues; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do hereby recognize and thank Elizabeth Ann Doody Gorman for thirteen distinguished years of service and advocacy on behalf of the residents ofthe 17' District of Cook County and wish her continued success and happiness as she begins a new career in the private sector; and
