RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Michael A. Miles has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-four; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Lake Forest, Michael A. Miles was a prominent business leader and the loving husband for fifty-two years of Pamela; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael A. Miles was the much-adored father of Michael, Jr., and Christopher and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael A. Miles was the dear brother of Margaret Ayers; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Washington, D.C., Michael A. Miles graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism; and
 
WHEREAS, Renowned for his skill as a brand management expert, Michael A. Miles worked early in his career in advertising at Leo Burnett in Chicago and was hired as Vice President of Marketing for Kentucky Fried Chicken; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael A. Miles went on to serve as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Glenview-based Kraft General Foods and later led Philip Morris; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael A. Miles was most recently a special limited partner at the private equity firm of Forstmann Little & Co.; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael A. Miles was a valued member of a number of corporate boards, including Dell, Allstate and Morgan Stanley and served as a trustee of Northwestern University; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Michael A. Miles serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Michael A. Miles will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Michael A. Miles imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of December, 2013, do hereby commemorate Michael A. Miles for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
