RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Maggie McEldowney, a native of Beverly, has been named the 2016 International Rose of Tralee; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Maggie McEldowney was previously named Chicago Rose of Tralee in May of 2016 and won the international honor in August of 2016 in County Kerry, Ireland; and

 

WHEREAS, The televised pageant is one of the most-watched events in Ireland; and

 

WHEREAS, The award marks the first time in 29 years that a "Chicago Rose" has won the international pageant revered among Irish descendants worldwide; and

 

WHEREAS, The international title was sought by 32 women from Ireland, 19 others from North American and 14 "roses" from elsewhere across the globe; and

 

WHEREAS, A young woman of dignity, grace and charm, Maggie McEldowney is a graduat the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign the daughter of Jim and Joanne McEldowney of Beverly; and

 

WHEREAS, Maggie McEldowney works as the Director of Development for her alma mater, Marist High School, located in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood; and

 

WHEREAS, In her role as the International Rose of Tralee, Maggie McEldowney Maggie has traveled throughout the United Slates and Ireland promoting the International Festival and supporting various charitable organizations; and .

 

WHEREAS, Maggie McEldowney serves as a board member of the Young Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago and plans to continue to raise money on behalf of the local group for March4Meg, which brings awareness to skin cancer, and the Andrew Weishar Foundatiori, which works to support families of teenagers with cancer; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Maggie McEldowney serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of February, 2017, do hereby congratulate Maggie McEldowney on being crowned as the International Rose of Tralee and do herby express our best wishes for her continued success and achievement; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Maggie McEldowney.
