RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Naperville, Hugh D. Hill was a widely admired member of the broadcast community and the loving husband of Jackie; and
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill was the much-adored father of Caven, Michael, Helen, Steve and Jennifer, the grandfather of eleven and the greatgrandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill was the dear brother of James; and
 
WHEREAS, With his distinctive voice and plethora of sources, Hugh D. Hill enjoyed a long and highly successful career as a political reporter and editor for WLS-Channel-7 News in Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill was known for asking tough, insightful questions of politicians and covered both Mayor Daleys, several governors and every president since Dwight D. Eisenhower; and
 
WHEREAS, The son of a coal miner and a school teacher, Hugh D. Hill was born in rural downstate Gillespie, Illinois, and served during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps; and
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Missouri where he studied journalism and later began his career in radio; and
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill came to Chicago in 1953 to work for WBBM Radio and WBBM-TV; and
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill joined WLS-TV in 1963 where he became an iconic figure in the broadcast industry until his retirement in 1996; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Hugh D. Hill serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Hugh D. Hill to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Hugh D. Hill will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Hugh D. Hill imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of November, 2013, do hereby commemorate Hugh D. Hill for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hugh D. Hill.
