RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Raymond J. Spaeth II has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Ray was the beloved son ofthe late Raymond Sr. and Ruth, devoted husband of Sharon, loving father to Laurie, Lisa (Paul Gibbs), and Dianna (Tim Orchard), cherished grandfather of Eli, Ty, Zoe, and Austin; dear brother of Ruth (late Robert Hornaday), fond uncle to many, and loyal and caring friend to thousands; and

 

WHEREAS, Ray grew up in Beverly, IL and attended Morgan Park High School; and

 

WHEREAS, After graduating from DePaul University, where he was an enthusiastic Phi Delta Theta member, Ray was honored to serve in the US Army Reserves; and

 

WHEREAS, He then entered the banking industry, launching a 50-year career; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1966, Ray started in the Lakeside Bank loan department and worked his way up to Department Head where he embodied the bank's philosophy of relationship banking and commitment to the community, helping many to start and grow their businesses; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1993, Ray and his close friend and confidant, Victor J. Cacciatore, along with a trusted group of investors, purchased Lakeside Bank; and

 

WHEREAS, Ray served as President ofthe bank before retiring in 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, Ray was a proud member of the Economic Club of Chicago, and served on numerous boards in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Recognizing his many contributions over the years, Ray was the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the prestigious Chinese American Service League Golden Lion, Mercy Hospital named him "Man ofthe Year", while on the VanderCook Board, Ray created and served as the Chairman of an event entitled, "The Yang & Olivia Concert" which became the most successful fundraiser in the school's history; and

 

WHEREAS, Ray's generosity continues to have impact on all the organizations he supported; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ray imparts a legacy of generosity, compassion, devotion to family and unwavering faith in God; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of December, 2022, doJhereby commemorate Ray for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That-a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Raymond J. Spaeth 11.
