RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski, a longtime and valued resident of the Southwest Side, will celebrate the joyful occasion of her 90th Birthday surrounded by the love of family and friends on May 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Born Helen Joan Porucznik, Helen was raised in the Pilsen neighborhood on Laflin Street and attended St. Pius Grammar School and Harrison High School; and
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski met her future husband, Henry, at a dance and the couple married in 1964 at St. Adalbert Church; and
WHEREAS, Henry Grochowski worked for Bodine Electric as an applicant engineer while attending the Illinois Institute of Technology where he pursued a college degree; and
WHEREAS, Sadly, Henry Grochowski died in 1967 and four years later Helen Joan Grochowski moved to the 14th Ward where she still resides today; and
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski worked for 20 years at the Witthaus Printing Company located on Dearborn Street in the Printers Row District; and
WHEREAS, When the business merged and became Repro Printing 8& Engraving, it relocated to Washington Boulevard in the West Loop; and
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski continued her career at the company for another five years until her retirement in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski never drove a car and navigates the City using public transportation; and
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski is an amateur photographer who has amassed a wonderful collection of images of Chicago neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski is a faithful member of St. Bruno Parish where she remains active in the Senior Club; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known to all as Aunt Helcia, Helen Joan Grochowski is the much-adored aunt of Claudia, Therese, Charles, Katherine and Patricia; and
WHEREAS, Helen Joan Grochowski is the beloved grand-aunt of 13 and the wonderful great-grand-aunt of nine; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby congratulate Helen Joan Grochowski on the occasion of her 90th Birthday and do hereby declare that May 2, 2015, shall be officially recognized as Helen Joan Grochowski Day throughout the City of Chicago; and
