RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Edna Pardo has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-two; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Austin neighborhood, Edna Pardo was a widely admired civic leader and the loving wife of Louis; and
 
WHEREAS, Edna Pardo was the much-adored mother of Zack, Victor and Richard and the grandmother of one to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Born in Yonkers, New York, Edna Pardo met her future husband in Indianapolis, Indiana and the couple moved to Chicago in 1952; and
 
WHEREAS, Edna Pardo earned a degree in urban studies from Roosevelt University and became an activist who passionately fought for tax and school funding reforms; and
 
WHEREAS, Edna Pardo served two terms as the President of the League of Women Voters of Chicago and was the longtime Chairwoman of its Fiscal Policy Committee; and
 
WHEREAS, Edna Pardo played an instrumental role in helping to produce the League's well-known publication, "A Guide Through Chicago's Tax Maze"; and
 
WHEREAS, A knowledgeable and vocal participant in civic affairs, Edna Pardo regularly attended Chicago City Council meetings and was active in the Illinois PTA; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edna Pardo serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Edna Pardo will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Edna Pardo imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this second day of April, 2014, do hereby commemorate Edna Pardo for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edna Pardo.
