RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, A. Alfred Taubman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A. Alfred Taubman was a widely admired business leader and philanthropist and the loving husband of Judith; and
 
WHEREAS, A. Alfred Taubman was a visionary real estate developer who was largely responsible for the nation's shopping mall boom; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Pontiac Michigan, A. Alfred Taubman was the son of immigrant parents and grew up during the Great Depression; and
 
WHEREAS, A. Alfred Taubman founded the Taubman Company in 1950 and his Taubman Centers, a subsidiary, manages 19 regional shopping centers across America; and
 
WHEREAS, A. Alfred Taubman was also a former owner of A&W Restaurants, a popular chain which he purchased in 1982; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1983 A. Alfred Taubman purchased Sotheby's, the British auction house, and took the company public in 1988; and
 
WHEREAS, A self-made billionaire, A. Alfred Taubman was heralded as a business leader with "one of the biggest hearts in America" and donated hundreds of millions of dollars to universities, museums and hospitals; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of A. Alfred Taubman serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared A. Alfred Taubman to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, A. Alfred Taubman was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, A. Alfred Taubman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorate A. Alfred Taubman for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of A. Alfred Taubman.
