RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Walter F. Worrill has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-eight; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, An administrator, activist and social worker, Walter F. Worrill was the loving husband of Sylvia Adele, nee Henderson; and
WHEREAS, Walter F. Worrill was the much-adored father of Oscar and Conrad, the grandfather of eighteen, the great-grandfather of twenty-one and the great-great grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Walter F. Worrill started out managing YMCAs in California and was recruited to work in Chicago's Wabash Avenue YMCA in 1950; and
WHEREAS, In 1971 Walter F. Worrill was named Executive Director of the Middle Atlantic Region of the National Council of YMCAs; and
WHEREAS, In this position of responsibility, Walter F. Worrill oversaw 243 facilities in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico; and
WHEREAS, Following a long and illustrious career, Walter F. Worrill retired in 1980 and was named a member of the YMCA Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Walter F. Worrill serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Walter F. Worrill to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Walter F. Worrill was a trusted mentor who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Walter F. Worrill imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of May, 2013, do hereby commemorate Walter F. Worrill for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Walter F. Worrill.
