RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Lincoln Park, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin was the loving husband for 41 years of Judy Wise; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin was the much-adored father of Kim, Jeff, Colin, Young and Jon and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Raised in Highland Park, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School before earning his doctorate from the London School of Economics; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin was dedicated to social justice and devoted his professional life to developing low-and moderate-income housing; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin was a part-owner of the Chicago White Sox and served on the boards of BPI, the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs and the Francis Parker School; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin was also a board member of the Baskin Family Foundation^and a Director of Business and Professional People for the Public Interest; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day' of July, 2017, do hereby commemorate Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Baskin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Sheldon "Shelly Baskin.
