RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lindy Boggs has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-seven; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lindy Boggs was the loving and devoted wife ofthe late Honorable Thomas Hale, Sr.; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lindy Boggs was the beloved mother of Thomas, Jr., Cokie and the late Barbara to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A proud graduate of Tulane University, the Honorable Lindy Boggs came from a family whose tradition of public service stretched back to the time of George Washington; and
WHEREAS, After the tragic death of her husband in an Alaska plane crash, the Honorable Lindy Boggs was elected to fill his seat in the United States House of Representatives and won eight subsequent terms; and
WHEREAS, The first woman from Louisiana elected to the United States House of Representatives, the Honorable Lindy Boggs was also the first woman to preside over the Democratic National Convention; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lindy Boggs was a staunch supporter of women's equality and civil rights; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lindy Boggs served as U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican under President Bill Clinton; and
WHEREAS, An individual of great integrity, faith and generosity, the Honorable Lindy Boggs supported many worthy civic, religious and charitable causes; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Lindy Boggs serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Lindy Boggs to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Lindy Boggs imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Lindy Boggs for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
