RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Larry R. Rogers, Sr. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, In 1974, Larry graduated from St. Xavier College with a B.A. in Philosophy; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Larry graduated with a J. D. from DePaul University College of Law; and
WHEREAS, Larry was a man from humble beginnings, at one time juggling three jobs to support his family, took advantage of the opportunities given to him, worked hard and became one ofthe most successful, respected and influential trial lawyers in the country; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious over 37-year career, Larry Rogers, Sr. obtained numerous multimillion-dollar verdicts and recoveries in a multitude of cases including a record $27 million product liability verdict for his client against an infant formula company, which in 1985 was the largest personal injury verdict in Illinois history, and a $55 million verdict for a brain-damaged woman, which is the largest medical malpractice verdict that went to judgment in Illinois history; and
WHEREAS, A leader in his field, Larry served as President ofthe Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Cook County Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, He has also held a number of leadership roles in various legal organizations throughout the area, and he has gained a reputation for his in-depth legal knowledge and unwavering commitment to his clients; and
WHEREAS, In honor of his outstanding professionalism and service, Larry over the years has been honored with numerous awards, including the Lawyer ofthe Year Award from Best Lawyers for personal injury litigation in 2016 and 2019; and
WHEREAS, He has also received the Leonard M. Ring Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association along with many other top rankings and endorsements from his peers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Larry imparts a legacy of generosity, compassion, devotion to family and unwavering faith in God; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this First day of February, 2023, do hereby commemorate Larry for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be presented to the family of Larry R. Rogers.
