RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton has completed her esteemed tenure as the 67th Secretary of State for the United States of America; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton ably served as United States Secretary of State from January 21, 2009 through February 1, 2013, under President Barack Obama; and
 
WHEREAS, As United States Secretary of State, the Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton was the President's chief foreign affairs advisor and carried out the President's policies through the State Department, which includes the Foreign Service, Civil Service and United States Agency for International Development; and
 
WHEREAS, In her role as the nation's top diplomat, Hillary Rodham Clinton traveled nearly one-million miles and visited a record 112 countries; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton forged international consensus regarding the toughest Iran sanctions ever put into place, rallied support for intervention in Libya, and established diplomatic relations with Burma, also known as Myanmar; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton brought to this role a wealth of education, knowledge and experience in public service; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Park Ridge, Illinois, the Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton is a graduate of Wellesley College and Yale Law School; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton married President Bill Clinton in 1975 and joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas Law School in 1975 and the Rose Law Firm in 1976; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton was the First Lady of Arkansas from 1983 to 1992 and the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton served as United States Senator from the State of New York from 2001 to 2009; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton is the only First Lady elected to the United States Senate and the first woman elected statewide in New York; now, therefore,
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, We, the Mayor, and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of February, 2013, do hereby commend the Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton on her service as United States Secretary of State and do hereby declare that February 13, 2013, shall be officially recognized as Hillary Rodham Clinton Day throughout the City of Chicago; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable parchment copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton.
