RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John and Eileen Linden are longtime residents of the Southwest Side who have devoted their lives to raising a warm and loving family and enlivening their community; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, John and Eileen Linden lived for nearly 64 years at 5258 South Natchez Avenue in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, John and Eileen Linden were the original owners of the bungalow home where they raised 13 children; and
WHEREAS, As the family grew so did their home, prompting John and Eileen Linden twice to build additions, expanding their home to include six bedrooms and an office; and
WHEREAS, While Eileen worked as a homemaker, John Linden taught for 27 years in the Chicago Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, During his career, John Linden taught at Gage Park High School, Chicago Vocational Career Academy and the Washburne Trade School from which he retired; and
WHEREAS, In his leisure time, John Linden grew vegetables in the family's backyard; and
WHEREAS, John Linden also travelled several times a week to the Hyde Park community to swim off Promontory Point; and
WHEREAS, John Linden continued swimming with the friends whom he met at Promontory Point until the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, A homemaker, Eileen Linden volunteered during the early years at Byrne Elementary School and St. Daniel the Prophet Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, After raising her children, Eileen Linden worked part-time as a secretary for a bank in the Loop; and
WHEREAS, On September 17, 2015, John and Eileen Linden moved into a senior living residence located near the homes of several of their children; and
WHEREAS, As John and Eileen Linden begin a new chapter in their lives, they also leave behind many fond and nostalgic memories that they will forever cherish; and
WHEREAS, The deep sense of family, community and dedication of John and Eileen Linden serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do hereby commend John and Eileen Linden for their good citizenship as longtime and valued members of the Garfield Ridge community and do hereby extend our warmest and best wishes for their future happiness; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John and Eileen Linden.
