RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Austin, Texas, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius was a highly decorated veteran of World War II and the husband of the late Charmaine; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin W. Denius was the much-adored father of Wofford and Charmaine and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius was widely admired for his work as a Texas civic leader and enjoyed a long and highly successful career as an attorney and businessman; and

 

WHEREAS, A member of "Our Greatest Generation," Franklin W. "Frank" Denius was one of the ten most decorated soldiers who fought in the European Theater of Operations during World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius landed on the "second wave" at Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion and fought in every major battle in Europe; and

 

WHEREAS, A member of the "Lost Battalion" Franklin W. "Frank" Denius fought in France at the Battle for Mortain which was a key turning point for the allies; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius also fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and four Silver Stars and received one of France's highest honors, Knight of the Legion of Honor, for his "virtue, bravery and strong commitment to liberation"; and

 

WHEREAS, Following the war, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius returned home where he built a career as a trial lawyer and business leader; and

 

WHEREAS, The courage, sacrifice and dedication of Franklin W. "Frank" Denius serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Franklin W. "Frank" Denius to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Franklin W. "Frank" Denius imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twe

ntieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate Franklin W. "Frank" Denius for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Franklin W. "Frank" Denius.
