RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mike Hitch has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hitch was a widely admired member of the business community and the loving husband of Marian; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hitch was the much-adored father of seven children, the grandfather of 22 and the great-grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The son of Macedonian immigrants, Mike Hitch played baseball at Detroit's Cooley High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hitch was signed by the Detroit Tigers and played in the minor leagues until a knee injury ended his career; and
WHEREAS, In 1959 Mike Hitch and his wife founded Little Caesars Pizza which became one of the world's largest carryout pizza, chains; and
WHEREAS, A model of America's entrepreneurial spirit, Mike Hitch purchased the Detroit Red Wings hockey team in 1982 and the team won the Stanley Cup in 1997,1998, 2002 and 2008; and
WHEREAS, Mike Hitch bought the Detroit Tigers baseball team in 1992; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Mike Hitch serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Mike Hitch to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Mike Hitch imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate Mike Hitch for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mike Hitch.
