CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO SISTER MARIE MICHELLE HACKETT, O.P. ON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE SAINT EDWARD SCHOOL.

 

WHEREAS, Sister Marie Michelle Hackett, O.P. is retiring from Saint Edward School on June 30, 2018, following more than twenty seven years of dedicated service; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this special occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago on February 4, 1943, Sister Marie Michelle Hackett, attended Maternity BVM Elementary School and Providence High School in Chicago, IL; and

 

WHEREAS, She received her bachelor's degree from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Iowa, and master's degrees in early childhood education and administration from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, Sister Marie Michelle Hackett entered the Springfield Dominican Congregation on September 2, 1962 and made her profession of vows on June 19, 1963; and

 

WHEREAS, Devoted to elementary education throughout her religious life, she has graced St. Edward School for the past 27 years with her leadership and dedication to Catholic education; and

 

WHEREAS, Since 1992, Sister Marie Michelle has served as principal of St. Edward School. In this role, she readily adapted new policies and procedures, the most important being an open-door policy to students, faculty, and parents throughout her tenure as principal; and

 

WHEREAS, In addition to ensuring her students received the finest spiritual education, Sister Marie Michelle enjoyed interacting with them at various school functions. She strongly supported the St. Edward Parent Organization (SEPO) and School Board. Sister Marie Michelle participated in most school related fundraising events. Her favorites included the fall festival, where you would find her on the dance floor, as well as the Big Red Auction, where she enjoyed socializing with the parents; and

 

WHEREAS, Sister Marie Michelle always maintained and exceeded the expectations of a school principal. She guided St. Edward School to be recognized as a 2017 Exemplary High Performing School National Blue Ribbon School by the United States of America Secretary of Education; and

 

 

WHEREAS, St. Edward Parish will celebrate Sister Marie Michelle Hackett's contribution to the community on June 10, 2018 and recognize the Springfield Dominicans 108 years of service to St. Edward School by dedicating the Minim School building as the Springfield Dominican Learning Center; now therefore

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of May 2018 do hereby honor and express our deepest appreciation for the vast accomplishments and dedicated service of Sister Marie Michelle Hackett, O.P. as she retires from St. Edward School and we extend to her our very best wishes for continued happiness; and
