RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Wade Nelson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 70; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of the North Side of Chicago, Wade Nelson was a widely admired journalist and political communications director who was married to columnist Ellen Warren; and

WHEREAS, Wade Nelson was the much-adored father of Ted and Emmett to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Wade Nelson was the dear brother of Karen and Ted; and

WHEREAS, Born Edward Wade Nelson and raised in River Forest, Wade Nelson graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Wade Nelson began his career at the City News Bureau of Chicago, known as a "boot camp" for young reporters, where he met his future wife; and

WHEREAS, Wade Nelson continued to climb through the ranks as a reporter for the Wilmette Life and the Chicago Daily News where he was a "legman" for legendary columnist Mike Royko; and

WHEREAS, After moving to the east coast, Wade Nelson worked for the Baltimore Sun before joining the staff of United States Senator Alan Dixon as communications director; and

WHEREAS, Wade Nelson later returned to Chicago where he was spokesperson for Clerk of the Circuit Court Aurelia Pucinski and chief speechwriter for Mayor Richard M. Daley; and

WHEREAS, In his later years, Wade Nelson distributed grant money for the Kellogg Foundation; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Wade Nelson serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Wade Nelson to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Wade Nelson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of September, 2017, do hereby commemorate Wade Nelson for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Wade Nelson.
