MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of the John W. "Jack" Yerkes, Jr. on February 8, 2016 at the age of ninety-one; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 6, 1924 this loving son of Joanna, nee Zakes, and John W. Yerkes, Sr. was the devoted husband of sixty-six years to Eloise Yerkes, nee Kaufmann; dearly loving father of Susan (Don) Sadofsky, Michael (Mary) Yerkes, Mary Yerkes (Denice Brandt), Sally Yerkes, JoAnn (Brian) Jordan, and Jill (David) Sweitzer; cherished grandfather of seventeen and great-grandfather of four; beloved brother of Joanne (the late Rich) Baumann, the late Chuck (the late Margaret) Yerkes, Dave (the late Joan) Yerkes, the late Ed (the late Fran) Yerkes, the late Fritz (Judy) Yerkes, the late Joe (Toni) Yerkes, the late Maxine Yerkes, Ben (the late Connie) Yerkes, Mary Lou Yerkes, Alicia (the late Bob) Distel and Anna (Bill) Sokolowski; fond uncle of many nieces, nephews, cousins; benefactor of many; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Jack was an active and vital member of his community. This World War II Veteran of the United States Navy SeeBees, was an honored seventy year member of Don Varnas American Legion Post #986, a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Mundelein Chapter #3024. He was a Master Plumber for the City of Chicago until his retirement. He touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity and spirit, making him a truly unforgettable person. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his smile, caring spirit, enduring patience, thoughtfulness, character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him, now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this sixteenth day of March, 2016, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of the John W. "Jack" Yerkes and express to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the famjhf of the John W. "Jack" Yerkes as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
