RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Richard Kissel has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Lake Forest, Richard Kissel was a widely admired member of the legal community and the loving husband of Donna; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Kissel was the much-adored father of David, Roy and Audrey and the grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Richard Kissel earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Northwestern University; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Kissel came to the attention of then-Governor Richard Ogilvie while working at Abbott Laboratories and through his involvement with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Kissel was asked by Governor Ogilvie to help draft the State of Illinois' first environmental legislation which was enacted in 1970; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Kissel was appointed to the Illinois Pollution Control Board and went on to enjoy a career in private practice as a widely sought after expert in environmental law; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Kissel will be remembered as a mentor to dozens of young lawyers who became leaders in the field; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Richard Kissel serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Richard Kissel to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Richard Kissel was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Richard Kissel imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby commemorate Richard Kissel for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Kissel.
