RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Coble has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Coble was the longest-serving Republican Congressman in the history of the State of North Carolina; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Greensboro, the Honorable Howard Coble served for 15 terms on Capitol Hill representing the 6th Congressional District; and

 

WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Coast Guard, the Honorable Howard Coble graduated from Guilford College and earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Coble practiced law for 20 years before he was named Secretary of Revenue under Governor James Holshouser; and

 

WHEREAS, Known for his fedoras and madras patched sports jackets, the Honorable Howard Coble was an old-school politician who served as a member of the state legislature before being elected to Congress in 1984; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Howard Coble serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Howard Coble to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Coble was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Howard Coble imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of November, 2015 do hereby commemorate the Honorable Howard Coble for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Tha^ a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Ho/forable Howard Coble.
