RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Beverly J. Fawell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A popular, long-time DuPage County Republican politician, the Honorable Beverly J. Fawell served for eighteen years in the Illinois General Assembly, first as a Representative and then as a Senator; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Beverly J. Fawell was the beloved mother of Jeff, Judy, Scott and the late Steve, the grandmother of seven, and the great-grandmother of four; and
WHEREAS, A passionate advocate for the elderly, the Honorable Beverly Fawell crafted the first law to establish assisted-living facilities in Illinois; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Beverly Fawell supported important legislation that has helped the mentally ill and physically disabled receive care and services; and
WHEREAS, An individual who always put family first, the Honorable Beverly Fawell did not hesitate to retire from the Illinois State Senate in 1999 to care for the children of her son, Steve, who had tragically passed away at the young age of 45; and
WHEREAS, Following her tenure in Springfield, the Honorable Beverly J. Fawell served at the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Beverly Fawell touched the lives of many with her integrity, wisdom and devotion; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Beverly J. Fawell serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Beverly J. Fawell to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Beverly J. Fawell imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of July 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Beverly J. Fawell for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Beverly J. Fawell.
