RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-seven; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson was a retired public servant and a 2nd ward precinct captain; and
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson was the much-adored father of Michael, Steven and Alene and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of the South Side, Ira T. Dawson was the nephew of legendary Congressman William L. Dawson; and
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson graduated from DuSable High School, the University of Illinois and Chicago-Kent College of Law; and
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson worked for more than a decade in private practice before beginning a career in government service; and
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson served as the Assistant Director of Registration and Education for the State of Illinois and later worked for the Department of Public Aid from which he retired in 1994; and
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson was a longtime and active member with Kiwanis International, not-for-profit organization which strives to help local communities; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ira T. Dawson serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ira T. Dawson to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Ira T. Dawson will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ira T. Dawson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby commemorate Ira T. Dawson for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ira T Dawson.
