RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 47; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice was a former member of the Chicago City Council and the loving husband of Marijo, nee Dernma; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice was the much-adored father of Amanda and Amy to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice was the dear brother of Denise and Michael and is survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice cared deeply about his community and devoted his life to public service; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice ably served as the Alderman of the 36th Ward on the Northwest Side from 2009 to 2011; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, the Honorable John A. Rice focused on delivering high-quality city services to his constituents; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice previously served as a trusted aide to Alderman William J.P. Banks (36th) and worked as a city zoning inspector; and
WHEREAS, After leaving City Hall, the Honorable John A. Rice was appointed by then-Governor Pat Quinn's administration to a position with the Illinois Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable John A. Rice serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable John A. Rice to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable John A. Rice imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago -City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable John A. Rice for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Hafiprable John A. Riee.
