RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi was the first woman to serve as a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi was a former municipal court Judge and a prosecutor for the Internal Revenue Service before working as a Partner in private practice for the law firm of Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1982 by Governor Thomas Kean, Sr.; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi served with distinction on the high court until her retirement in 2000 and during her esteemed tenure wrote more than 225 opinions; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi was also the first woman to serve as the President of the New Jersey State Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi was a Director of the State Chamber of Commerce and New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and a Trustee of St. Peter's College; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Marie Garibaldi serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marie Garibaldi was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Marie Garibaldi imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of February, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Marie Garibaldi for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
