RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jacob D. Dumelle has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Oak Park, Jacob D. Dumelle was a leader at the forefront of environmental issues and the loving husband of Dorothy J., nee Konieczny; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacob D. Dumelle was the much-adored father of Christopher, Margo, Grace and Lili and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The son of Austro-Hungarian immigrants, Jacob D. Dumelle was born in Lincoln Park and graduated from Lane Tech High School; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacob D. Dumelle served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a retired Lieutenant Commander; and
 
WHEREAS, Following the war, Jacob D. Dumelle earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in public engineering administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacob D. Dumelle served for seven terms as a member of the Illinois Pollution Control Board, including 15 years as Chairman; and
 
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Jacob D. Dumelle won approval for drinking water standards, sponsored a measure to reduce volatile chemicals released by gasoline and championed standards for diesel emissions; and
 
WHEREAS, In his private life, Jacob D. Dumelle appeared as an extra in more than 20 films made in Chicago, including "Home Alone" and "The Fugitive"; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jacob D. Dumelle serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jacob D. Dumelle to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Jacob D. Dumelle will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jacob D. Dumelle imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of July, 2014, do hereby commemorate Jacob D. Dumelle for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jacoo D. Dumelle.
