RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, John Keeley, Jr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 75; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Western Springs, John Keeley, Jr., was a leading member of the investment industry and the loving husband of Barbara; and

 

WHEREAS, John Keeley, Jr., was the much-adored father of John III, Kevin, Mark and the late Christopher, and the devoted grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, John Keeley, Jr., was the dear brother of George; and

 

WHEREAS, Born in New Orleans and raised in Chicago, John Keeley, Jr., graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, John Keeley, Jr., founded the Chicago-based Keeley Investment Corp. in 1977 and Keeley Asset Management Corp. in 1982; and

 

WHEREAS, An astute investor and Chartered Financial Analyst, John Keeley, Jr., was renowned for his ability to spot value in small companies known as midcaps; and

 

WHEREAS, A generous philanthropist and civic leader, John Keeley, Jr., established with his wife the Keeley Family Foundation and endowed a Chair in Investment Management at DePaul University in honor of his late son who was an alumnus of the school; and

 

WHEREAS, John Keeley, Jr., and his family also funded a renovation of the emergency room at Loyola University Medical Center named after his late father, Dr. John L. Keeley, a former Chair of Loyola's Department of Surgery and mentor to many medical students; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John Keeley, Jr., serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John Keeley, Jr., to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, John Keeley, Jr., was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, John Keeley, Jr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby commemorate John Keeley, Jr. for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Keeley, Jr.
