RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff was the 73rd Governor of the State of Vermont and the loving husband of Joan; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives from 1961 to 1963 and the Vermont Senate from 1983 to 1989; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff served as Governor from 1963 to 1969 and during his tenure focused on the environment and worked to clean up the state's rivers and streams; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff also championed education reform and helped to revamp the state's judicial system; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff also was known as a major force in changing Vermont from a Republican to a Democratic state; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Philip Henderson Hoff.
