RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Lionel Gindorf has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Western Springs, Lionel Gindorf was a widely admired labor leader and the loving husband for 68 years of the late Anne; and

 

WHEREAS, Lionel Gindorf was the much-adored father of Merry and Jeffrey and the grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, A member of our "Greatest Generation," Lionel Gindorf was raised near Midway Airport during the Great Depression; and

 

WHEREAS, Lionel Gindorf fought for his country during World War II on the Island of Guam in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations where he serviced B-16 bombers; and

 

WHEREAS, Following the war, Lionel Gindorf returned to Chicago and began his career as a building engineer downtown; and

 

WHEREAS, Lionel Gindorf rose through the ranks of Local 399 of the International Union of Operating Engineers and earned a reputation as a skilled negotiator; and

 

WHEREAS, Lionel Gindorf was the former President and Business Manager of Local 399 and a past International Secretary-Treasurer; and

 

WHEREAS, Lionel Gindorf retired in 1994 after 48 years with the union; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Lionel Gindorf serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Lionel Gindorf to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Lionel Gindorf was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Lionel Gindorf imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, do hereby commemorate Lionel Gindorf for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lionel Gindorf.
