RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, James "Major" Adams has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of the West Side, James "Major" Adams grew up near Maxwell Street and graduated from Crane High School; and

 

WHEREAS, James "Major" Adams served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, Following the war, James "Major" Adams returned to Chicago where he devoted his life to community service and helping at-risk youth; and

 

WHEREAS, James "Major" Adams joined the staff of the Henry Horner Boys 8s Girls Club and formed a drill team that became the nationally renowned Hornets Drum and Bugle Corps; and

 

WHEREAS, James "Major" Adams went on to help develop the Mile Square Health Center and founded the Major Adams Community Committee, an agency that provides after-school arts, sports and mentoring programs; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James "Major" Adams serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James "Major" Adams to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, James "Major" Adams was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his son, Reginald, and his daughters, Cledith, Diane, Jerelyn and Yvette, James "Major" Adams imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of March, 2016, do hereby commemorate James "Major" Adams for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James "Major" Adams.
