RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The American Association of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry will hold a symposium in Chicago on March 9, 2013, during which this organization will bring together a consortium of dentists and physicians to examine solutions to reducing sleep apnea in children while promoting healthy breathing and eating practices; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The American Association of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry is a multidisciplinary group formed to build a bridge between physicians, dentists, other health care practitioners and the public to provide fuller, integrated care for children and adults; and
WHEREAS, Today, there is an intensified awareness of the multiple role sleep plays in both health and disease, in both the public and professional sectors; and
WHEREAS, Less recognized, but equally important are the multiple ways in which oral pathology and dental dysfunction are frequently amplified into body disease and disability; and
WHEREAS, For these reasons, optimal diagnosis and treatment often demand the attention of both dental and medical health care professionals working together as a team guiding both diagnosis and treatment processes for the benefit of a patient; and
WHEREAS, The American Association of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry focuses on issues relating to sleep disorders, craniofacial pain, child growth and development, chronic inflammation and sports and academic performance; and
WHEREAS, This upcoming event sponsored by The American Association of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry is entitled, "The Silent Airway Problem: Its Impact on Developmental Performance and Health" and will be held at Kasbeer Hall at Loyola University, 25 East Pearson Street in Chicago; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2012, do hereby commend this valued organization on its mission to improve the well-being of children's health and do hereby declare that March 9, 2013, shall be officially recognized as American Association of Physiological Medicine & Dentistry Day throughout Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. John Kelly, DDS and members of the Board of Directors of the AAPMD.
