RESOLUTION

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Chicago Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this auspicious honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Jerry Reinsdorf was inducted with nine others, including Allen Iverson, Shaquille O'Neal, Sheryl Swoopes, Zelmo Beaty, Cumberland Posey, Yao Ming coaches Tom Izzo and John McLendon and referee Darrel Garretson; and

 

WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jerry Reinsdorf bought the Chicago White Sox in 1981 and the Chicago Bulls in 1985 and has reinvigorated the Chicago sports scene through his remarkable vision and adept management and

 

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Chairman of the Chicago Bulls, the team has clinched six NBA Championships, advanced to the postseason 24 times, reached the Eastern Conference Finals seven times and claimed eight Central Division titles; and .

 

WHEREAS, The Reinsdorf-era Bulls have achieved six NBA MVPs, including five by Michael Jordan and one by Derrick Rose, three Rookie of the Year winners, three Executive of the Year winners and two Coach of the Year honorees; and

 

WHEREAS, During his ownership, Jerry Reinsdorf led the NBA in attendance 10 times, including the last six straight seasons, and currently owns a sellout streak of 250 consecutive games; and

 

WHEREAS, Under the guidance and direction of Jerry Reinsdorf, Chicago Bulls Charities has supported a number of organizations with an emphasis on youth education, health and wellness, and violence prevention; and

 

WHEREAS, Chicago Bulls Charities has generously supported the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago; the James Jordan Boys & Girls Club and Chicago Bulls Family Life Center; the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center; City Year Chicago; Youth Guidance; Mercy Home for Boys 85 Girls and the Ronald McDonald House Charities; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jerry Reinsdorf serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2016, do hereby congratulate Jerry Reinsdorf on his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and do hereby declare that Saturday, September 10, 2016, shall be officially recognized as Jerry Reinsdorf Day throughout the City of Chicago; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jerry Reinsdorf.
