A Resolution Honoring the Life of Patricia Hill

 

 

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the passing of Pat Hill, former executive director of Chicago's African American Police League, on September 3, 2017 at the age of 66; and

 

WHEREAS, Pat Hill grew up in Chicago's Princeton Park neighborhood and attended Harlan Community Academy High School where she excelled at track, joining the prestigious Mayor Daley Youth Foundation team which competed nationwide; and

 

WHEREAS, Pat stayed local for college, spending two years at Northern Illinois University before transferring to Chicago State University, just down the block from where she grew up, where she continued to run track and play basketball; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Hill dedicated her life to the City of Chicago, starting in 1974 when she began her twelve-year career with Chicago Public Schools as a high school physical education teacher; and

 

WHEREAS, Pat continued to serve the City on the personal security detail for two Chicago Mayors, Mayor Harold Washington and Mayor Eugene Sawyer; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Hill went on to serve as the executive director of Chicago's African American Police League where she fought for increased minority hiring and better working conditions for African Americans within the Chicago Police Department. Pat was known as a fierce advocate for both African American and gender equality throughout the City of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, As a resident of the 3rd Ward, Pat remained active in the community, attending town hall meetings and starting a garden with her neighbors. She was consistently engaged in improving the ward and the City as a whole, and approached her engagement in an inquisitive and positive manner. She was a fearless civic activist. Pat remained passionate about basketball and was a great support of women's sports. She had a smile that would light up a room. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Pat Hill during this difficult time; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here in assembly this 6th Day of September, 2017 A.D., do hereby offer our sincerest condolences to the family of Patricia Hill; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Patricia Hill.
