RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable A. George Pradel has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable A. George Pradel was a former Mayor of Naperville and the loving husband for 55 years of the late Patricia, nee Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable A. George Pradel was the much-adored father of George, Carol, and Gary, the grandfather of six and the great-grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago's Hyde Park community and raised in Naperville, the Honorable A. George Pradel graduated from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn and pursued a career in law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable A. George Pradel ably served for 29 years as a member of the Naperville Police Department and as "Officer Friendly" provided a trustworthy face to children learning about public safety; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable A. George Pradel became Mayor in 1995 and served for five terms, the longest tenure of any Mayor in the suburb's history; and
WHEREAS, A member of Rotary Club International, the Illinois Police Association and the Chamber of Commerce, the Honorable A. George Pradel was the recipient of numerous awards which recognized his outstanding role as a civic leader; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable A. George Pradel serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable A. George Pradel to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable A. George Pradel was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable A. George Pradel imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Honorable A. George Pradel for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
