RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan was a retired North Side legislator and the loving wife of the late Paul; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan was the much-adored mother of Shannon and Paul and the grandmother of four to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan married her husband upon her graduation from Barat College in 1965 and pursued a life of social activism; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan was elected as the first woman to serve as Democratic Committeeman for the 43rd Ward in 1984 and in 1988; and
 
WHEREAS, In her role as Committeeman, the Honorable Ann Stepan developed a robust grassroots political organization in the 43rd Ward and helped to propel other women into positions of political influence; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan served from 1991 to 1993 as a State Representative for the 7th District in the Illinois General Assembly where she co-sponsored the Lead Poison Prevention Act; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan was a prominent member of the Democratic National Committee, a board member of the Better Government Association and a trustee of the Museum of Contemporary Art; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Ann Stepan serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Ann Stepan to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ann Stepan was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Ann Stepan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Ann Stepan for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Ann Stepan.
