RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Replogle has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Replogle was a prominent Chicago heart surgeon and a widely admired educator; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Ottumwa, Iowa, Dr. Robert L. Replogle served from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy; and

 

WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge, Dr. Robert L. Replogle graduated from Harvard Medical School; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1967 Dr. Robert L. Replogle joined the medical staff of the University of Chicago where he headed its congenital heart surgery-program; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Replogle obtained additional training in adult cardiac surgery and spent the remainder of his career performing adult and pediatric heart operations; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Replogle became section chief of pediatric surgery in 1970 and chief of pediatric surgery in 1973; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1978 Dr. Robert L. Replogle's team gained national attention when they performed triple bypass surgery on comedian Jackie Gleason who was on tour in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Replogle was a former President of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Robert L. Replogle serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Robert L. Replogle to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Replogle was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his loving wife, Dr. Carol, his three children, Dr. Jennifer Bremer, Dr. Edith Sheffer and Dr. Robert, and his nine grandchildren, Dr. Robert L. Replogle imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 20.16, do hereby commemorate Dr. Robert L. Replogle for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
