MEMORIAL RESOLUTION JAMES "RUSSELL" WHARTON

 

WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called James Russell Wharton, most beloved citizen, to his eternal reward on February 25, 2019 at the age of sixty-nine; and

WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Derrick Curtis, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born on June 9, 1950 to loving parents Walter Lee Wharton and Celestine McHaney Wharton. He was the third of four children. His parents preceded him in death, as well \ as, his younger sister, Celestine Marguerite Wharton; and

WHEREAS, James Russell confessed his belief in Christ at an early age, and was baptized by the Reverend William Johnson of Saint John Church Baptist; and

WHEREAS, James "Russell" Wharton, affectionately known as "Russell" met and married the love of his life Sheila Williams, and together they raised one son, Marcell who also preceded him in death. They remained happily married for 36 years. They each enjoyed traveling, music, "Steppin" and were known to always be on the dance floor; and

WHEREAS, Russell had several jobs before beginning his professional career at the United States Postal Service where he retired after 38 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Russell was a very social person who lived life to the fullest. He loved to dress sharp, dance and listen to his collection of old school music. His zest for life was never more visible than when he attended family gatherings; and

WHEREAS, Russell leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Sheila; two sisters, Sandra Parker and Gwen McCormick (Larry); two brothers-in-law, Keith Williams (Winnie) and Seith Williams (Julia); a beloved granddaughter, Marshayle Williams; two aunts, Gwendolyn McHaney of Harvey, Illinois and Evelyn McHaney of Pontiac, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family; and

WHEREAS, Russell touched the lives of all who knew him through his loving kindness, generosity and vivacious spirit. He will be deeply missed, but the remembrance of his genuine character, intelligence and deep compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-second day of May 2019, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of James "Russell" Wharton and express to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of James "Russell" Wharton as a
