RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gerald W. Shea has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Burr Ridge, the Honorable Gerald W. Shea was a former five-term state legislator and the loving husband of the late Joanne; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gerald W. Shea was the much-adored father of Courtney to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gerald W. Shea graduated from the University of Illinois and DePaul University College of Law; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gerald W. Shea served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1967 to 1977, including two terms in leadership positions, one as Majority Leader; and
WHEREAS, Following the close of his legislative career, the Honorable Gerald W. Shea remained active in public service as a member of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2002 and as its Chairman from 2001 to 2002; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gerald W. Shea was also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Regional Transportation Authority and active on other government commissions; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gerald W. Shea was the Senior Principal in the lobbying firm of Shea, Paige & Rogal, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Gerald W. Shea serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Gerald W. Shea to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gerald W. Shea was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and adrnirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved farnily, the Honorable Gerald W. Shea imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE TT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this mirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Gerald W. Shea for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his farnily; and
