RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, James W. Cozad has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, James W. Cozad was a widely admired business leader and the loving husband for 66 years of Virginia; and

 

WHEREAS, James W. Cozad was the much-adored father of Mike, Catherine, Scott, Jeff and Amy, the grandfather of ten and the great-grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Indiana, James W. Cozad bravely served his country during World War II in the Navy in the South Pacific where he piloted landing crafts and participated in the Battle of Okinawa; and

 

WHEREAS, James W. Cozad was a recipient of the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon; and

 

WHEREAS, Following the war, James W. Cozad graduated with a degree in accounting from Indiana University; and

 

WHEREAS, James W. Cozad enjoyed a highly successful and diverse business career and retired in 1992 as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Whitman Corporation; and

 

WHEREAS, James W. Cozad served on numerous corporate boards and was a trustee of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Museum of Science 8s Industry and the Chicago Zoological Society; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James W. Cozad serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James W. Cozad to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, James W. Cozad was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James W. Cozad imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby commemorate James W. Cozad for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of>this resolution be presented to the family of James W. Cozad.
