RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Stein Eriksen has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Park City, Utah, Stein Eriksen was a legendary Olympic skiing champion and the loving husband of Francoise; and

 

WHEREAS, Stein Eriksen was the much-adored father of Bjorn, Julianna, Ava, Anja and the late Stein Jr., and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Oslo, Norway, Stein Eriksen came to prominence during the 1952 Winter Olympics in his hometown when he won a Gold Medal in the giant slalom and Silver Medal in the slalom; and

 

WHEREAS, Stein Eriksen also won three gold medals at the world championships in Are, Sweden in 1954; and

 

WHEREAS, For the past six decades, Stein Eriksen lived in the United States where he held positions at ski resorts including Snowmass, Colorado, Sugarbush, Vermont, Aspen, Colorado, Boyne Mountain, Michigan and Deer Valley, Utah; and

 

WHEREAS, A man committed to excellence who maintained a high level of integrity, Stein Eriksen gave of himself fully to his family and was a loyal friend to many; and

 

WHEREAS, Stein Eriksen inspired the lives of countless people through his tremendous athletic ability and dedication to the sport of skiing; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work and sacrifice of Stein Eriksen serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Stein Eriksen to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Stein Eriksen was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Stein Eriksen imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby commemorate Stein Eriksen for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Stein Eriksen. /
