MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of the Honorable Daniel L. Houlihan on November 13, 2013, at the age of seventy-seven; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 29, 1936, Dan was the beloved husband for fifty years of Mary Alice Houlihan, nee Loftus; adored father of Margaret (Jim) Smith, Kathleen (David) Motzenbecker, Marty (JoAnn) Houlihan, Bridget (Mike) Kennedy, Molly (Peter) McDermott and Nora Houlihan; proud grandfather of Jack and Maeve Smith; Fiona Motzenbecker; Grace, Claire, and Danny Houlihan; Donny, Tommy, and Joe Kennedy; Patrick and William McDermott; caring brother of Paul (Kay) Houlihan, Tom "Brian" Houlihan, Mary (John) McCloskey, Mike (Mary) Houlihan and the late Bill Houlihan and John (Vicky) Houlihan; fond brother-in-law of Jim (Jean) Loftus, Cathy (the late Donald) Fennell, Chuck (Susan) Loftus, Joe (Kathy) Loftus, and Peg Klug; treasured uncle of many nieces and nephews, and friend to many; and
WHEREAS, Dan was a prominent zoning attorney who began his career as an Assistant State's Attorney, served as an Illinois State Representative, longtime Legislative Counsel for the Illinois State Bar Association; long-standing Board of Director Member for Misericordia Heart of Mercy and member of Catholic Charities Advisory Board; An active and vital member of his community who touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity, heart and spirit and
WHEREAS, Dan will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-sixth day of November, 2013, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of the Honorable Daniel L. Houlihan and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Daniel L. Houlihan.
