CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO LIEUTENANT JOSEPH J. POREBSKI ON RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Joseph J. Porebski will retire from the Chicago Police Department following thirty-one years of dedicated and meritorious public service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Porebski has had an exemplary career spanning over three decades, first joining the force in 1986, earning promotions to Sergeant in 1994, Lieutenant in 2002, and the responsibility of Watch Lieutenant for the 17th District with full oversight of third shift; and
WHEREAS, In his many years with the Department, Lieutenant Porebski has received sixty-six awards for a wide variety of achievements, including: a 2004 Crime Reduction Ribbon, a 2008 Presidential Election Deployment Award, a 2009 Crime Reductions award, three Attendance Recognition Awards, a Democratic National Convention Award, a NATO Summit Service Award, a Unit Meritorious Performance Award, an Emblem of Recognition - Appearance Award, thirty-seven Honorable Mentions and nineteen Complimentary Letters; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Porebski has devoted his professional life to serving the people of the City of Chicago, working tirelessly to ensure that the city be a safe, healthy, vibrant and welcoming place for its citizens and visitors. Throughout his long and distinguished tenure, Lieutenant Probeski has consistently upheld the finest traditions of the law enforcement community. His character, integrity, and hard work have garnered him the deep respect and admiration of his colleagues and the communities he has served; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Porebski's consistent dedication to and fulfillment of the motto of the Chicago Police Department, "We Serve and Protect", exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with stress and danger of being life's arbitrator for countless citizens, but also on their family members. It is with deep gratitude that we acknowledge that Lieutenant Porebski will celebrate this milestone in his life together with his wonderful wife, Marcia, and sons, Joey and Ryan, at his side; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we the Mayor and Members of the Chicago City Council, gathered here this twelfth day of December, 2018, do hereby commend Lieutenant Joseph Porebski for his outstanding career achievements and express our most heartfelt wishes for a pleasant retirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Lieutenant Joseph Porebski as a sign of our honor and respect.
