RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Christy O'Connor, Sr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Christy O'Connor, Sr., was a widely admired member of the golf community and the loving husband for 62 years of Mary; and

WHEREAS, Christy O'Connor, Sr., was the much-adored father of his six children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities mat he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Born in Knocknacarra, County Galway, Ireland, Christy O'Connor, Sr., was one of 11 children of a farmer; and

WHEREAS, As a youth, Christy O'Connor, Sr., caddied at the Galway Golf Club for extra money before becoming intrigued by the game; and

WHEREAS, Christy O'Connor, Sr., enjoyed a long and highly successful career in golf and won 24 tournament victories on the European Tour and played 15 times in the World Cup, winning for Ireland in 1968 with Harry Bradshaw; and

WHEREAS, Christy O'Connor, Sr., held the record until 1997 for most Ryder Cup appearances; and

WHEREAS, Christy O'Connor, Sr., was a co-founder of the Links Golfing Society, an Irish pro-amateur charity, and was an inductee of the World Golf Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Christy O'Connor, Sr., serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Christy O'Connor, Sr., to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Christy O'Connor, Sr., was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Christy O'Connor, Sr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2016, do hereby commemorate Christy O'Connor, Sr., for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Christy O'Connor, Sr. /
