RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Doris B. Holleb has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Lincoln Park community, Doris B. Holleb was an urban planning expert and the loving wife of the late Marshall; and

 

WHEREAS, Doris B. Holleb was the much-adored mother of Paul, Alan and Gordon and the grandmother of five to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of New York, Doris B. Holleb graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan and earned a master's degree in economics from Harvard University; and

 

WHEREAS, Doris B. Holleb raised three sons before joining the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1966 where she started its geography department; and

 

WHEREAS, With her appointment by Mayor Harold Washington in 1986, Doris B. Holleb served on the Chicago Plan Commission; and

 

WHEREAS, A widely respected civic leader, Doris B. Holleb was a member of the boards of the Field Museum, the Metropolitan Institute and the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art; and

 

WHEREAS, Doris B. Holleb was as an honorary trustee of the Francis W. Parker School; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Doris B. Holleb serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, Doris B. Holleb was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Doris B. Holleb imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of. the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby commemorate Doris B. Holleb for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doris B. Holleb.
