RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 66; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of the Hyde Park community, David DeCoursey was the loving husband for 42 years of Joanne; and
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey was the much-adored father of Jan, Kathryn and Donegan and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey was the dear brother of Vincent, Thomas, Robert, Stephen and John; and
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey ably served for more than 25 years as the Executive Director of Leadership Greater Chicago which trains city leaders on civic issues and broadens their professional networks; and
 
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Kansas, David DeCoursey earned a theology degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's degree from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse University; and
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey's social conscious was shaped by his family, his service on behalf of the Council of Lay Apostolate and his experiences studying in Chile and working in an orphanage in New York's Harlem neighborhood; and
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey began his career working in government relations for Catholic Charities and the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1989 David DeCoursey was hired to head Leadership Greater Chicago whose alumni include First Lady Michelle Obama, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Ariel Investments Chairman and CEO John W. Rogers, Jr., U.S. District Chief Judge Ruben Castillo and White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett; and
 
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey retired from the organization in June of 2014; and
 
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of David DeCoursey serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, David DeCoursey will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, David DeCoursey imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate David DeCoursey for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
