SALUTE TO RIGHT REVEREND FRANCIS MANIOLA
ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 100th BIRTHDAY AND 75th YEAR AS A PRIEST
 
 
WHEREAS, The Right Reverend Francis Maniola co-celebrates his Diamond Jubilee as well as becoming a member of this city's burgeoning population of centenarians; and
 
WHEREAS, Born on April 25,1913, Monsignor Maniola was the eldest son ofthe late Rocco and Rose Maniola and ordained a priest by the His Eminence George Cardinal Mundelein on April 23,1938.
 
WHEREAS, Monsignor Maniola was appointed as pastor ofthe South Side parish of St. .Symphorosa in 1968, a time throughout the entire Catholic world that sweeping change had been made in the liturgy as a result of the Second Vatican Council. It was Monsignor Maniola who implemented that change through the establishment of new liturgical ministries in the parish.
 
WHEREAS, Monsignor Maniola continued to serve as pastor until retiring inl981. He continues to live at St. Symphorosa parish under the official title of "pastor emeritus." Even at 100 years of age, he is blessed with good health, a sharp mind and a quick wit. He enjoys crossword and Sudoku puzzles as well as watching the televised Cubs and Sox baseball games; and
 
WHEREAS, Monsignor Maniola remains a deeply spiritual man of faith and prayer. The parishioners of St. Symphorosa are pleased and excited to share in the double celebration of his 100th Birthday and the 75th year of his ordination; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marty Quinn, Alderman of the 13th Ward, and the Honorable Michael R. Zalewski, Alderman of the 23rd Ward, have apprised this august body ofthe remarkable physical and spiritual milestones that have been achieved by Monsignor Maniola; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 8th Day of May, 2013 AD, do hereby salute Right Reverend Francis Maniola on the occasion of his 100th Birthday and 75th Anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood as well as wish him continued health happiness and success in all his future endeavors.
