RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 71; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino was the former Mayor of Boston and the loving husband of Angela; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino was the much-adored father of Susan and Thomas and the grandfather of six to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino was the dear brother of Carolyn and David; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino was first elected in 1993 and held office for more than 20 years; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino was the first Italian-American and the longest-serving Mayor of the City of Boston; and
 
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, the Honorable Thomas Menino focused on neighborhood development and launched the so-called Innovation District along Boston's waterfront which became home to many start-up companies; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino enjoyed high approval ratings as Mayor and brought the Democratic National Convention to the City in 2004; and
 
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of the Honorable Thomas Menino, Boston was ranked the third greenest city in the United States by Popular Science magazine; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino previously served as a member of Boston's City Council where he served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, integrity and dedication of the Honorable Thomas Menino serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Thomas Menino to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thomas Menino will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Thomas Menino imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Thomas Menino for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
