RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, James R. Cummings has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Beverly community, James R. Cummings was a veteran Chicago public relations executive and the loving husband for 52 years of the late Joan; and

 

WHEREAS, James R. Cummings was the much-adored father of Rob, Patrick, Philip, Mary and Anne, the grandfather of ten and the great-grandfather of six to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, A member of "our greatest generation," James R. Cummings served our country as a member of the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, James R. Cummings graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep and Loyola University at Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, James R. Cummings began his career as head of public relations for the Chicago Motor Club where he served from the late 1940s until the early 1960s; and

 

WHEREAS, James R. Cummings was later the Director of Public Relations for the American Dairy Association before working at Young & Rubicom; and

 

WHEREAS, James R. Cummings retired in 1994 after running his own consulting firm for several years; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James R. Cummings serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James R. Cummings to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, James R. Cummings was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James R. Cummings imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby commemorate James R. Cummings for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James R. Cummings.
