RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman was the loving husband for 54 years of Diane; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman was the much-adored father of S. Jonathan, Joshua and Rachel and the grandfather of six to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman was a widely admired Hyde Park community activist who worked on social justice issues with famed organizer Saul Alinsky; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman managed a number of successful political campaigns of progressive candidates, including those of Alderman Leon Despres (5th) and State Representative Abner Mikva; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman was also a visionary giant in the field of real estate who pioneered the concept of condominium ownership in Chicago and founded Development Management Group; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman developed more than 2,000 condominiums and townhomes in Edgewater, Lakeview and in the Gold Coast; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman's final project was the development of the 56-story East Erie condominium tower, completed in 2002; and
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman served from 1973 to 1976 as Chairman of the Illinois Capital Development Board under Governor Dan Walker; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Louis R. Silverman serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, Louis R. Silverman will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Louis R. Silverman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of April, 2014, do hereby commemorate Louis R. Silverman for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Louis R. Silverman.
