RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Martin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 63; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Martin was an attorney, educator and Judge; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Martin was the much-adored father ofAzalea, Kayla and Brianna to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Oak Lawn, the Honorable Daniel Martin graduated from DePaul University and Chicago-Kent College of Law; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Martin presided since 2012 as a Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Martin had been a longtime attorney for the Federal Defender Program where his work included more than 60 criminal jury trials and more than 40 cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit; and
WHEREAS, During the early 1990s, the Honorable Daniel Martin played an instrumental role in helping to start Horizon, an organization that operates summer camps for children suffering from Muscular Dystrophy; and
WHEREAS, In 2002 the Honorable Daniel Martin established and administered the Federal Defender Program's Summer Trial Skills Institute; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Daniel Martin serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Daniel Martin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Martin was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Daniel Martin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirty-first day of October, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Daniel Martin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Daniel Martin.
